A Conversation With Some Parents
Hello, my dear friends. How kind of you to bring your little ones with you.
Thank you, Jesus. We have listened and watched you and wanted to meet you personally.
I'm glad you feel that way. I love little children. Besides, they
show us many things about the Kingdom of Heaven.
They do? That's a surprise.
Their innocence is marvelous, something many adults seemingly
have left behind.
Is that really true? Can you explain that?
You who have older children probably can explain that better than I can.
What do you mean?
Well, when they are real small, they put a lot of trust in you.
I see what you mean. As they grow older, they can do more things for themselves and
don't need us as much any more.
Exactly. And when they get even older, they can even resist
what you say or even what you want to do for them.
That sure rings a bell. I guess that is human nature, isn't it?
JUST THEN JESUS SCOLDED THE DISCIPLES FOR HINDERING THE CHILDREN
Please, gentlemen, don't try to stop these little ones from coming to me.
But there are so many. We don't have the time to deal with them.
We don't? Why do you say that?
We have things to do, places to go, and we don't have either
the time or energy to deal with a bunch of kids.
Really? You know something? These little ones are very precious.
They are one of the finest gifts humanity can receive.
Gifts? They belong at home, not out here where there are lots of people,
some with bad colds or diseases. It can be a dangerous place.
You are right. Crowds can be dangerous in more ways than one.
Come, little ones, let me hold you in my arms.
O how precious are these in the sight of God, my Father who is in heaven.
Jesus, give her back to her mother, and come, let's be going.
We have lots to do today.
Listen, my disciples. I have something important to say.
Do not forbid these little ones. Look, unless adults
become like these children, they will never enter
the Kingdom of Heaven.
Really? We don't get it.
If you had faith like these little ones, you would understand.
People can't become believers without a childlike faith.
You mean they have to get rid of their stubbornness, pride and pretense
to enter into heaven?
That's pretty close. Don't forget. Some who think they are in are not even invited.
